Zhiyong Hu is a Professor in the Institute for International Studies of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
He researches China`s neighborhood diplomacy with a special focus on the strategy, politics, security, and diplomacy of Southeast Asia and South Asia as well as China`s maritime security strategy.
He is a Professor at Ji Lin University,and Shanghai Maritime University, the Founder and President of China`s National Maritime Research Union,the Vice-Director and Secretary-General of the Central Asia & South Asia Security Council of China, the Founder and Director of Shanghai Institute for Maritime Strategies (SIMS).
He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Macau(2013),
Northeastern University (USA,2015), APCSS (USA, twice:2012、2016), American University (USA,2017-2018),the University of Delaware
(2018), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2019), the Johns Hopkins University(2019),IDSA (New Delhi, India,2013), and NIAS(Bangalore, India,2013).
Also,he currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Central Asia and South Asia Security Studies and Maritime Issues Studies.
His recent publications include

The History of Baltic Sea(translated English into Chinese, 2013),

He founded the Shanghai Maritime Forum,the Sino-India and Myanmar Triangular Relations Forum.
He is the Analyst for China Review News and People`s Daily,etc.,and has written more than 400 papers and articles.
He awarded the National Social Sciences Top Project Founding of 2017,the Title of the Programme is:Studying for the Building of National Maritime Governance System.
